Kapenguria MP Samuel Moroto has faulted Non-Governmental Organisations for misusing funds meant for aid purposes in the region. Speaking in Kapenguria, Moroto called for tougher structures to keep NGOs in check, “Many people are always writing proposals to get money, but they don’t help the locals,” he said.
He said there are many briefcase organizations which have nothing to show for their accomplished work, “We’ve realized there are may briefcase NGOs in the area. Some don’t even have offices in this region and they do their operations from other areas.” He urged the existing NGOs to up the ante so that residents can feel the impact of their work and operations.
Moreover, the Kapeguria MP noted that all NGOs should be vetted to ascertain their legitimacy, given that many are taking advantage of conflicts between communities in the region. “The NGOs, especially those dealing with peace initiatives should be vetted because they are doing completely nothing to restore peace in this area,” said Moroto.
