The committee that was formed last week by Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i to investigate claims that the teachers were meting corporal punishment to students at Keveye Girls High school has finalized its report.

According to the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) Director Stephen Mudho, the committee established that the clip was not genuine. Education CS gave the school an impromptu visit after a video emerged on social media showing students being caned ruthlessly.

“The committee looked into the clip critically citing that there are contradicting issues in the said video,” said Mudho.

He said the school’s signpost in the video and place of shooting is misleading and was an attempt to taint the name of the school.

“The signpost was erected five years ago and this makes it obsolete while the shooting place is unclear,” said the TSC director.

He added that the school uniform the students are wearing is also shared by other schools across the Country.

Mudho said the whole saga was a makeup story as all students interviewed by the committee denied the alleged caning.

“The report shows clearly that the institution has school barazas where they are offered guidance and counseling since corporal punishment is banned in schools,” noted Mudho.

He said there have been wrangles between the teachers and the school principal.

Mudho also said that disciplinary action will be taken against the teachers suspected to circulate the video for going against the set code of regulations and insubordination.

The head teacher Judith Ngome has since denied the said claims arguing that the video is meant to taint the name of the school.

Mudho was speaking at Vihiga Boys High School during the ongoing sensitization on performance contract by the commission.
