The Electoral Commission, IEBC, have insisted that there should be no parallel tallying centre during the August 8th General Elections. Chairman Wafula Chebukati has made it clear that only IEBC are allowed to count, tally, announce and declare election results. This comes after NASA principal Raila Odinga had declared that the opposition party will set up a parallel tallying centre during the elections. The opposition leader had outlined that they will set up 50 agents in each polling station during the electoral process, who would keep watch and send the results on the ground to the party’s tallying centre as they stream in.
The IEBC Chair has insisted that there will be free and fair results, with the outcome a true measure of the citizens’ decision. He said the new integrated election management system will go a long way in ensuring the results are credible, “The commission shall guarantee transparency and accountability of the results,” he said.
The IEBC Chairman said the results will be accessible through the set framework, “Other actors, including plitical parties, shall have access to the results within the framework established by the commission.”
