KANU leaders from West Pokot County have urged the Jubilee party to observe the benchmark from them on how to conduct peaceful elections after the cancelled Jubilee party primaries.
Speaking at the County party headquarters after issuing party certificates to various aspirants who emerged winners in KANU primaries, West Pokot senator John Lonyangapuo, former cabinet minister Samuel Poghisio said Jubilee party should copy a leaf from them.
Lonyangapuo said the party managed to conduct peaceful primaries, devoid of violence since they had put in place strategies for a credible exercise.
He said if they hold the nominations without rectifying the mistakes they may be unsuccessful again.
“They need to learn on how to conduct the elections before holding them. We don’t want to see what happened again,” he said.
Poghisio said KANU is the party to admire and asked those who feel their democratic rights have been violated to join the party. “This is an independent party and we shall welcome those who want to join us,” he said.
However, the leaders said that they still support the re-election of President Uhuru Kenyatta during the coming elections.
“KANU still supports the President on re-election bid. The mess witnessed cannot make us change our stand. We shall support the president,” said Lonyangapuo.
In the KANU primaries, Catherine Mukenyang who was vying for women Mp was declared the winner after she garnered 29,509 votes, Stephen Nalelia (Sigor constituency) emerged the winner with 4867 votes and in Pokot south constituency Stephen Kolimuk was awarded a direct ticket.
The party did not conduct primaries for Kacheliba and Kapenguria parliamentary seats since the election materials arrived late and the party rescheduled the primaries to Tuesday.
The area senator will be vying for the gubernatorial seat on the party ticket and Poghisio will be vying for senator seat. The two had no competitors and were awarded direct tickets.
