More than two thousand early childhood development (ECD) teachers in Bungoma County who had previously been employed on temporary terms have now been employed on permanent and pensionable terms by the Bungoma County government, Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka has confirmed.

While meeting the teachers and instructors drawn from Mt. Elgon Sub County, Governor Lusaka said the County has already budgeted for the program saying it will officially start in the month of July.

“I have instructed the Public Service Chairman Mr. Sirai together with the Finance CEC Mr. Paul Masinde to ensure the funds are available in good time so that the teachers get their salaries in good time every month,” he said.

He further assured the teachers that as a government they will continue to provide a conducive learning environment for teachers together with the children saying they need to stabilize the foundation of education.

He disclosed that being the first County government to employ teachers, they’ve been able to transform their lives positively and also been able to increase enrollment in schools adding that the teachers are now rejuvenated and ready to work.

Hon Lusaka also applauded the efforts of the education CEC Beryl Mutekhele saying she has worked hard and as a result, her ministry is rated the best in the country.

In her address, the Education CEC said apart from employing the teachers they will be providing learning materials to the teachers and also will be starting a feeding program to children before August to encourage more children to join school. She exuded confidence that the residents of Mt Elgon will vote for the Governor.

On his part, Mt Elgon KNUT Executive Secretary Stephen Chemonges called upon the County government to set up a cooperative office in each Sub County for teachers to enable them to access services they need easily.
