Principal Secretary for Broadcasting and Telecommunication Sammy Itemere has called on the security agents to secure digital learning devices (laptops) that have been distributed to various schools across the country.
Itemere noted that several primary schools had lost the learning devices issued to them and called on the police to take action.
“The police should protect the devices by engaging the village elders and through the use of ‘Nyumba Kumi’ initiative to stop the vice,” said Itemere.
While speaking in Mbale town during Vihiga County’s third medium term consultation workshop, he said the pupils through the use of the laptops will globally be competitive.
He said the devices had been programmed in such a way that it becomes useless when stolen from the schools.
“Don’t steal these laptops from our young children. The laptops will be of no value to those who take them away,” said the PS.
He said the area County Commissioner Pauline Dola had briefed him about the theft of the devices in some schools in the area.
“Let us appreciate the concerted effort the government has put in place to have our children have the devices in lower classes and learn digitally,” said Itemere.
