West Pokot Governor Simon Kachapin has defended himself against allegations that he has used public resources during his campaigns, at the same time accusing his competitor of using propaganda to get publicity. Governor Kachapin has been named among five Governors who the Commission on Administrative Justice (CAJ) want to be investigated for using public resources in their campaigns. The Governors who were listed include the West Pokot Governor, Paul Chepkwony of Kericho, Hassan Joho of Mombasa, Kitui’s Julius Malombe, and Peter Munya of Meru.

Speaking during a campaign trail in Talau, Siyoi Ward, the governor said he is ready to face investigations since he is aware of the dirty politics being played by his competitor. Kachapin accused Senator John Lonyangapuo of scheming to ensure he drops out of the gubernatorial race.

“I am aware of the propaganda being spread by my competitor. How can I misuse public funds when I’ve been rated among best Governors in the country? This is pure politics being played out,” he said.

However, some leaders have called for the arrest and probing of Governors and public officers named by The Commission on Administration Justice (CAJ) over misuse of public funds in campaigns.

Kacheliba member of parliament Mr Mark Lomunokol, the leaders called on agencies of prosecution to take stern action against those listed, to set an example for others perpetrators.

Speaking after attending the IEBC aspirants meeting at Kacheliba, Lomukonol urged West Pokot Governor Simon Kachapin to come out and explain to the Pokot community why he is facing the accusations. “Mr Kachapin is on the spot and he owes residents an explanation. We want to see justice done because justice delayed is justice denied,” he said.
