The Nandi County government, through the office of the Kapsabet town administrator, has set up measures to end the stray dogs’ menace within the town. This follows an outcry from residents concerning the risk of a rabies outbreak.

Speaking to West Media in his office, Kapsabet town administrator David Sugut affirmed the move comes after an outcry from residents, saying actions will be taken. He said the owner of any dog found straying in Kapsabet town will be fined Kshs 300.

The administrator urged dog owners within Kapsabet and its environs to tame them, including even wandering cows, before the measures start being implemented in two weeks time. “We want a clean environment within the town and we have unanimously agreed as administrators to eliminate the stray dogs,” he added.

He said treating rabies is very expensive and that there are already four cases of rabies that have been reported.

Concerning the issue of relocation of a dumping site, the administrator revealed that the government has planned financially for it in this financial year.
