Leaders from Western Kenya are still faulting the agreement between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Uganda President Yoweri Museveni to increase the quota of sugar imports to Kenya from the neighbouring country. During Museveni’s state visit last week, it was agreed that he imports would be increased from 36,000 tonnes to 90,000 tonnes. Speaking at a funeral in Ikolomani, ANC Party leader Musalia Mudavadi faulted the move, saying it may have detrimental effects to the sugar sector.
He said the government should be accountable and reveal the reason behind the decision, “You are the one who should tell us why the Jubilee government has increased the quota of sugar from Uganda to Kenya,” he said.
