The Kenya Universities Staff Union (KUSU has urged the Education Ministry, EACC, DPP and the DCI to conduct financial investigations in all public universities countrywide, following the expose on Maasai Mara University that revealed misappropriation of Kshs 190 million.
Speaking to the press Dr. Charles Mukhwaya, the KUSU Secretary-General, said what is happening at Maasai Mara University is happening in other universities, “What is happening at Maasai Mara University is a replica of the rot in most public universities in Kenya and it’s even worse than that.”
The Union has also called for investigations to be carried out on convoluted fiscal and management processes, skewed promotions, nepotism among other issues. They’ve also urged CS Magoha to investigate officers domiciled at the Ministry who’ve been protecting rogue Vice-Chancellors when financial impropriety matters arise, adding that the Maasai Mara VS Prof. Mary Walingo should step aside to allow for a smooth investigation. The investigation into the case dubbed ‘Maasai Mara heist’ is ongoing.
