Two guards were attacked and brutally killed on the Wednesday night at Mirere village in Kakamega County, in a case that’s certain to draw glances after a period of stable security in Kakamega County, specifically Matungu. The killings in Matungu earlier this year had struck fear in residents, and leaders led by Interior CS Fred Matiang’i visited the area in a bid to restore clam and security. Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya had also assured residents of their security.
In the latest case, two guards who keep watch at Mirere were attacked by armed men at night. Residents woke up to find the bodies of the victims, with machete cut marks. Speaking to the press, one of the residents said they are saddened by the event, adding hat it happened due to a lack of security, “When we look at the street lighting, it’s lacking….if the lighting were present, the thugs wouldn’t have seen the victims, a culprit delights in darkness.”
