Residents of Marula village in Marakusi sub location Lugari Sub County have been left bewildered after a goat belonging to one of them delivered a one eyed kid without eyelids and nostrils. The puzzling incident occurred in the home of a renowned goats famer Mrs. Catherine Wamoi Wasula.
The kid has one eye situated on the middle of the face without eyelids leaving it exposed. More shocking is that the young goat breathes through the mouth.
The visibly shocked owner said the goat which has sired three times carried the pregnancy without any problem and she was mesmerized with the deformity saying she had not witnessed any abnormalities in the previous births.
She said the goat delivered while in the grazing field and on witnessing the kid her farmhand together with his friend ran away.
“Usually when goats deliver while in the forest my farmhand and his friends do bring them home but this one they were afraid to touch it and I was forced to and bring it myself,” said Wamoi.
She said she had to ignore residents’ advice to leave the young goat to die in the bush rather than taking it home saying despite the deformities she was ready to take care of the goat until maturity.
“People told me to kill or just leave it in the bush to be eaten by dog or wild animals terming it satanic but I ignored because this is God’s creature and he knows why it has these deformities. I’ll take good care of it unless it dies a natural death but I cannot do anything to harm it,” said Wamoi.
The farmer said that she had never encountered such an oddity in the last 15 years she has been keeping goats. The incident has attracted throngs of villagers who are visiting the home to catch a glimpse of the deformed creature with a section of them attempting to superstitiously interpret the rare occurrence.
“For the 67 years I have lived on this earth I have never seen such creature,” said Mr. Martin Barasa.
According Lugari animals production officer Mr. Zachariah Mwaniki the problem is genetical. He said the mother goat might have fell sick during the pregnancy and wasn’t treated properly thus affecting the mutation.
