Some of the survivors of the August 24th, 2020 accident at Kaburengu trading center are still nursing injuries and yet to resume their businesses. The accident claimed eight lives and left 14 people with serious injuries after a lorry ploughed into traders at the center.

Speaking to West Media, some of the survivors said despite being discharged from the hospital they were still in pain and unable to return to their businesses. Mrs. Rael Sammy said she was in coma for two days before regaining consciousness at Webuye county hospital where those injured were rushed.

She said she has not recovered fully, revealing that she still feels pains on the back, knees and head and walks with difficulties. “Our business involves a lot of running because our customers are those on transit. You have to move from one vehicle to another and with the health situation that I am in currently I can not make it,” said Rael.

Another survivor, Ms. Christine Naswa, said she sustained serious injuries on her right hand and back which are also still aching. To her the incident is still fresh in her mind and she can still narrate how it happened.

Similar sentiments are shared by Mr. Elijah Musambai, a tout at the center who recalls how he was loading luggage on one of the minibuses plying the Eldoret-Kakamega road before he was hit by the truck leaving him unconscious.
