It was double tragedy for a family in Madioli village, Isukha central ward in Shinyalu sub County of Kakamega County that lost a daughter 3 days after the father of the family had passed on.
53 year old Henry Lungho Munyendo succumbed to throat cancer on a Sunday, and his 19 year old daughter Diana Khanyeri followed on a Wednesday.
The late Munyendo developed health complications in early 2020 and was diagnosed with throat cancer in August the disease he battled until his death.
The daughter who was a form two student at Lirhanda mixed secondary school had delivered a baby girl a month ago normally though weeks later she developed swellings on her legs a condition that was treated.
According to her mother Beatrice Munyendo, the doctors diagnosed her with blood pressure and kept her on medication.
On learning of her father’s death, the girl developed complications and was rushed to a few hospitals in Kakamega and the family was told that she was in need of blood transfusion.
Due to lack of the blood in most of the facilities she visited in Kakamega, the late Diana was referred to Kisumu, but her siblings offered to donate the same though it was late for she passed on a day before the blood was donated.
The mother who sold all the family property in an effort to save her husband’s life now calls upon well-wishers to help her raise the one month old girl and the rest of her children that are still in school.
