Former West Pokot Governor Simon Kachapin and Kapenguria MP Samuel Moroto have welcomed the move by Dr. Atudonyang to vie for the County gubernatorial seat.
Kachapin cited that he is not worried of anyone coming and he is well prepared to throw the two political giants.
The duo who called on the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) to come and investigate alleged graft in the County, faulted Governor Lonyangapuo over misuse of public funds.
“Residents have seen the theatrics of the Current Governor,” noted Kachapin.
The former Sports Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) who resigned on 9th February said that he is ready to come back and complete development projects he initiated but was ignored by his successor.
“As the first governor I laid down a strong foundation but the current Governor never touched them with the vision I had .We improved health, infrastructure and others .What we are witnessing now is mere corruption,” he said.
The leaders who spoke to the press on Sunday after attending mass at Bendera Catholic Church in Kapenguria cited that a lot of funds have been allocated to the County and has increased from Sh 2 billion to 7 billion since 2017.
“Lonyangapuo has not set up offices, bought vehicles or repaired machines I bought for making roads. EACC has delayed coming because bursary funds worth Sh300 million have been embezzled. There is a maize saga where people’s children are not yet out of the hook. We never saw EACC officers visiting the county during my reign like what we are seeing now. There was value in money. Keringet University is on the verge of collapse,” he said.
He explained that in case he will be re-elected, he will rectify the mess in the County because he now has experience.
“I have today met with a nurse whom I employed and she has now been sacked. People are crying everywhere. A former member of County Assembly and one man from Takaywa village died last week because of the poor state of health in Kapenguria County hospital. There is open corruption. Sh 7 billion could have been felt than 2 billion,” he said
He pointed to favoritism by the current governor whom he claimed has been cheating locals.
“A good leader cannot sideline people and give out cows to only his cronies and friends. He has worked alone and sidelined even his County executives. He has run the county as his own home,” said Kachapin.
Moroto who supported Kachapin applauded him citing that he is well placed to head the county.
“Kachapin is now back in the ring. He failed in the last polls but he didn’t complain. We are now with him in the United Democratic Alliance Party. I thought that our friend the Professor could do more than Kachapin. In my Kitengela home I have more than twenty students waiting for school fees and it is the bursary of ten thousand he promised. I will take his burden because the students might defer,” said Mr Moroto.
He hit out at EACC for being selective and targeting UDA members.
“They have been bought. Those in Jubilee and ODM are eating a lot .Continue eating till your stomach bursts,” he said.
However, Governor Lonyangapuo dismissed the allegations citing that he has performed well hence scoffed at his critics whom he accuses of spreading propaganda about his government to undermine his leadership.
