Women from Mt. Elgon Constituency, Bungoma County have been urged to vie for various political positions in the 9th August general elections.
Speaking at Chemses village, former Gender Advisor in the office of the Governor Jenipher Mbatiany said that time for women too to be considered in the society has come.
Mbatiany applauded various women that have shown interest of vying for different seats encouraging them to fulfill their constitutional rights.
She has called upon Mt. Elgon residents to be good ambassadors of peace before and after elections.
She also warned politicians who have plans to misuse youths by giving them alcohol to cause disruption in different occasions e.g political rallies, funerals, harambees and other functions, instead to empower them in different ways.
However, Mbatiany congratulated Sabaot Council of Elders led by their chairperson Reuben Butaki for reaching a consensus in choosing among the seven candidates who have shown interest of deputizing Senate speaker Ken Lusaka as he will be vying for Bungoma gubernatorial seat.
The same exercise was done in Kitale, Trans Nzoia County but there was no agreement hence postponed to a later date since some members failed to show up.
