The hopes of 13  needy pupils from Lugari Sub County of joining Form One was actualized after receiving a fully sponsored four year scholarship courtesy of one of the leaders from the area.

Engineer Philemon Wanzala Otindo said as a leader who values education he was touched by the story about the 13 pupils from humble backgrounds who were still at home for lack of school fees despite their fellow pupils joining Form One about two weeks ago and thus stepped in to ensure they pursue their dreams.

He disclosed that all the thirteen students will not be required to buy or pay anything for the four years they will be in high school.

“Each one of them will get books, uniforms and other school requirements for four years without paying even a single cent,” said Otindo.

Eng. Otindo who is vying for Lugari parliamentary seat in the August 9th  polls as an independent candidate has promised to prioritize education by creating a conducive learning environment for the learners and teachers within the Sub County.

He has also promised to continue with the program of supporting the needy children from the Sub County disclosing that in the first lot he gave a full four year scholarship to eight needy pupils last year.

The students could not hide their joy after their desire to pursue their dreams was actualized.

Japhet Wekesa who scored 356 marks  said their parents separated several years ago and abandoned them at home alone with teachers at Bahati primary school where he school with his siblings allowing them in school after learning of the situation they were going through.

To him Eng. Otindos gesture was a miracle and he would now be able to pursue his dream of becoming an engineer.

He said at home he was forced to stay outside until late in the night studying using moonlight since they could not afford to buy paraffin.

“When there was no moonlight I was forced to wake up early and go to school by 4am so that I could study,” said Wekesa.

“Despite passing my KCPE well  I had lost hope of joining  secondary school before pastor Everly Otatwa showed up at our home and directed that I have to join form one.. It is such a joy to finally pursue my dream,” said an elated Wekesa.

According to Eng. Otindo, the pupils were identified by pastor Otatwa after reports emerged that they had not joined Form One due to lack of school fees.
