The Salvation Army church Kenya West territory region has donated food and other basic commodities to flood victims in Kisumu County. While flagging off the donation at the headquarters, the territorial commander commissioner Mr. Joash Malabi called on the government to incorporate the church and other stakeholders in finding a permanent solution to the flood menace that has left several families homeless every year of rainfalls.
Addressing the media, Mr. Malabi wondered why the government is giving a blind eye to the problem yet it keeps occurring every year with the victims left to receive some donations from well wishers which don’t satisfy their needs.
“It is known that the rains fall every year, why don’t the government engage us the Salvation Army church with other willing stakeholders in finding a lasting solution to families that get affected with floods year in year out?” Queried Commissioner Malabi.
The consignment amounting to 2.6 Million shillings that included food items, water and blankets will be distributed to families in Ahero, Kano and Nyando who have been displaced by the raging floods due to heavy rains.
The territory commander noted that the donation might not be enough to the victims but urged other well wishers to come in and help these families.
He called on the government to intervene with haste in finding shelter for the affected families.
