Eldoret Catholic Bishop Cornelius Korir has passed on. The Bishop had been unwell for some time and was undergoing treatment in Eldoret.

Bishop Cornelius Korir died while undergoing treatment at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, Eldoret.

Bishop Cornelius Koris was ordained as a priest in November 1982 and appointed the bishop of Eldoret 1990 June.

The 67 year old Eldoret diocese Bishop who was born and raised in Bomet County, was in forefront in calling for peaceful co-existence in the country

Bishop Korir played a key role in the restoration of peace in the North Rift during the 2007/2008 post-election violence.

The late Bishop was the chairman of the Catholic Peace and Justice Commission and was vocal on matters touching on public interest especially peace and conflict resolution.

Weeks ago, Bishop Korir had called for dialogue between the Jubilee government and the opposition to end the political tension in the country.
