MUMIAS EAST, KAKAMEGA COUNTY. Deputy president William Ruto has hit at the critics of his generous donations in different fundraisers that he attends across the country on a daily or weekly basis.
Ruto who was speaking during a funds drive to raise money for different churches from Mumias East constituency held at the area district headquarters of Mumias East Sub-county last Friday said that his critics will not cow him and other Kenyans from giving and donating to the church and other functions that contribute to the work of the Almighty God.
“We are not ashamed to identify ourselves as Christians and we shall not tire in contributing towards the work of God and therefore we are unapologetic about our Christianity,” the DP said.
He said that he and others allied to Jubilee or to him do not give donations to churches because they are politicians but because they are Christians.
“Whenever we are called upon to contribute towards the work of God, we do not come just because we are politicians but because we are Christians and we were taught well at the Sunday school on what we are supposed to do in contributing to God’s work,” he added.
The DP further pointed out that whatever money that he and his allies contribute towards the expansion of churches and other activities is through their own volition without any influence from anybody to give a certain amount of money in a particular funds drive.
Ruto cautioned that the critics of his contributions at harambees have no moral authority to do so and ask why he gives out such amounts of money saying that whenever they spend their money on witchcraft in Tanzania, Nigeria and other countries, nobody questions them.
“Why should they question our contributions to the churches when we do not ask them when they board planes to Tanzania, Nigeria to seek for witchcraft and other powers besides the powers of God,” he added.

He said that his wing is aware of such dealings among the politicians who keep on asking where he gets money to contribute generously at different functions telling them to continue spending their money on witchcraft as he and his allies contribute to the work of the Almighty Father.
“Let them continue using their money on witchcraft and other powers but we shall continue giving back to God,” added the DP.
He urged the pastors not to be intimidated in any way by such politicians or group of people who are against the philanthropic contributions of other leaders towards the expansion of churches and other activities in the society.
Ruto’s statement comes in the wake of the parliament seeking to ban fundraising activities in the country through a new law that is supposed to start being implemented soon especially as the country moves towards the next general elections that shall witness politicians doing all they can to lure voters on their side.
During the ceremony, Ruto gave his donation of Kshs 1.5 million with Kshs 1 million from President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Politicians from the opposition have on many occasions questioned the source of money that the DP gives out in harambees in harambees across the country whereby in many cases he always gives a minimum of Kshs 1 million in one activity yet in a day especially in the weekend he attends over three ceremonies in which majority are held to raise funds for youth, women groups, churches, boda bodas among many other needy groups.
