“It is time for the righteous to rise to authority and govern justly, when the righteous are in authority the people rejoice: but when the wicked men rule, the people groan and sigh.” Bungoma County Senatorial seat aspirant Rev. Herman Kasili, has presented himself to the Bungoma electorate as an epitome of just and righteous leadership. The reverend and politician who vied on a United Democratic Party (UDP) ticket and managed position 3 in 9th August General Election is back to the field for a vote hunt, for the Senatorial by-election scheduled on 8th December 2022. The position was declared vacant after Hon. Moses Wetangula was elected as the National Assembly Speaker. Rev. Kasili has served as the pioneer chairman of KNCCI (Kenya National Chamber of Commerce) Bungoma County. He chairs the Bungoma County Budget and Economic Forum and is also a member of the Auctioneers and Licensing Board appointed by former Chief Justice David Maraga.
“I am confident enough that Bungoma people are going to vote for me and I want to assure them that I will stand firm and represent the interests of Bungoma County on the floor of the house.“ Said Rev. Herman Kasili.
Speaking during Cross Fire Show on West Fm on Sunday 10th October 2022, Rev Kasili, while outlining his 10 point agenda has vowed to be a performer and work closely with the incumbent Governor for the interest of the people. Some of his agenda include;
- Quality health care, accessible and affordable, Improve access to quality education and training.
- Modernized roads and infrastructure in the County.
- Ensure there is accessibility to clean water and environment protection.
- Promotion of trade, industries and SMES.
- Entrench devolution and strength governance.
- Proper lands settlement and physical planning in areas including Mt. Elgon and environs.
- Empower the youths, boda boda operators, elderly and vulnerable groups.
- Promotion of sports, culture, tourism, music and performance art.
- Improvement in agriculture and livestock by empowering farmers and reviving failed food processing industries.
Among aspirants that have already thrown their weight towards the Senatorial race are; long term speaker Wetangula’s aide Wafula Wakoli and Professor Luketero both in Ford Kenya, Lendrix Waswa and former Bumula MP Mwambu Mabonga both in UDA party among others. It is yet to be confirmed whether DAP Party will field Former Kanduyi MP Wafula Wamunyinyi in the Senatorial race following Professor Ngome’s exit from DAP-K and shook hands with Speaker Wetangula.
During the interview, Rev. Kasili urged the people of Bungoma to turn up to endorse and vote for him come 8th December insisting that he is the change that Bungoma needs.
Bungoma Senatorial seat remained vacant after Moses Wetangula resigned and elected as the Speaker of the National Assembly.
