Over the years, drugs and alcohol abuse among the youths in the society has had array of problems and effects that include; health-related like mental defects, involvement into criminal activities and an adverse effect on their families.
Speaking during the Jamhuri day celebrations held at Kibisi F.Y.M primary school in Mbakalo Ward, Senior Deputy County Commissioner Bungoma North Philip Koima noted that the increase in crime among the youths in his region is as a result of drug and alcohol abuse among the youths.
He however, pledged to have put in place measures that would ensure drug traffickers are dealt with in accordance with law, urging youths to desist from drugs and alcohol abuse citing that its effect is not only adverse on the user but also their families.
Besides, he emphasized on the need for parents and the entire community to embrace and ensure that their children have access to basic and quality education, that they may be good citizens and of great impact and help to the society.
Despite the raft measures put in place by the security agency in Bungoma North Sub-County to curb crime, the senior Deputy Commissioner was however saddened that there was still an increase in crime among the youths pledging that the law shall catch up with them.
His sentiments were echoed by Mbakalo Ward Member of Bungoma County Assembly Benard Kikechi who noted that theft cases have increased urging the security agency to step in strongly to ensure crime rate has decreased.
The MCA further said it was saddening that a huge number of parents have failed to support their children to acquire quality education citing how dangerous it is to have an illiterate society.
He assured residents that the county government of Bungoma is focused to ensure there is quality service delivery to the locals as far as realization of development is concerned.
Locals were urged to visit relevant authorities to acquire title deeds for their pieces of land and advised to stick to the law when selling and buying them to avoid land disputes that arise thereafter.
