Kapsabet Boys High school has produced the top candidate in this year’s KCSE,with a marked improvement in the number of students who’ve scored A plain recorded. Tony Wabuko Buluma is the leading candidate out of the 699,745 candidates, with 87.159 points, followed by Maryanne Njeri from Kenya High, David Odhiambo from Kapsabet Boys High school 87.080 and Anthony Ochieng from Maseno school scored 87.000, Natasha Wawira from Kenya High scored 86.961.
Releasing the KCSE 2019 results, Education CS Prof. George Magoha noted that the number of A plains has increased this year to 627,up from 315 last year. Number of candidates with A minus rose to 5796 from 3418 last year and the candidates who attained the C plus rose to 125,746 this year.
The CS said the results this year show that the education sector reforms are working, “Overall performance of candidates has been increasing since we started reforming the system, an indication the country is on the right track.”
In the schools’ ranking, Kenya High School emerged top with the highest number of As, 76. It is followed by Kapsabet Boys High School with 49 As, Alliance High School with 48 As, Moi Kabarak with 30 As, Alliance Girls with 27 As, Mary Hill Girls with 25 As, Maseno School with 23 As, Nairobi School with 23 As, Mang’u High School also has 23 As and to cap off the top ten is Moi Girls School Eldoret with 21 As.
CS Magoha noted that this year’s performance marked an improvement, compared to last year. The subjects that registered improvements are English, Kiswahili, Chemistry, Biology and Physics. Although the percentage of girls who sat for the exam stood at 49% compared to boys who were 51%, the girls managed to perform better than their male counterparts in English, Kiswahili, C.R.E, Home Science, Art and Design, German and Kenyan sign language.
