Kimilili Member of Parliament Suleiman Kasuti Murunga has expressed his satisfaction with the directive from the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) of barring politicians from participating in Harambees.
Speaking after issuing CDF cheques to fund different development projects in his constituency Murunga said it’s advisable for politicians and aspiring leaders to follow the law.
He added that residents are supposed to elect their leaders basing on their capability and leadership skills as opposed to their financial capabilities, saying they will suffer from misrepresentation during their tenures.
The MP also distanced himself from corruption claims in the implementation of the CDF projects, saying the auditors carried out their inspection and could not find any fault in Kimilili constituency.
He called upon his competitors to campaign on issue-based agendas instead of maligning his CDF committee on issues of mismanagement which cannot be proved.
“I have never conspired with the CDF manager to steal money from the kitty as I was mandated by the people of Kimilili to represent them in parliament and am paid by the parliamentary service commission, I have not even picked my CDF allowance since 2014,” he said.
Hon Murunga said with the general election fast approaching he is focusing on completing all the projects he initiated after assuming office saying in his manifesto he promised to better the lives of Kimilili and he will depend on that for his re-election.
He, however, called upon parents to take good care of their children during this festive season especially students, so as to keep them from indulging in unwarranted activities that may have a negative impact on their lives, adding that parents should take care with how they spend their money, given that their children will need school fees come January.
