MPs cautioned against misuse of CDF funds

Members of parliament have been asked to observe constitutional guidelines to avoid channeling Constituency Development Funds (CDF) money towards unintended purposes at expense of proposed projects.

Speaking when he received a group of defectors belonging to various parties from Lugari ward in Lugari constituency who joined Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), Kakamega County Chief of Staff, Mr. Nabii Nabwera cited cases in which Lugari MP, Mr. Ayub Savula has been accused of donating cheques to churches and social welfare groups in his constituency using funds drawn from the CDF kitty.

Nabwera castigated the move saying it went against the CDF Act of Parliament.

“I have two clear examples, backed with evidence, where our local MP donated CDF cheques to a church in Lwandeti ward and a social welfare group in Mautuma ward,” claimed Nabwera who at the same time hailed the said church for rejecting the cheque.

Nabwera urged CDF managers against allowing themselves to be swayed by politicians.

Commenting on Bungoma Senator, Moses Wetangula’s planned presidential bid launch, the chief of staff urged the Senator to consider doing it from the country’s capital city instead of Kakamega County.

“Any serious presidential candidates cannot think of launching their bids from their considered tribal home turfs but Nairobi, which is the symbol of our nationhood,” said Nabwera who was flanked by ODM’s Kakamega County Organizing Secretary, Mr. Rajab Mukolwe.

Nabwera pointed out that Muliro garden, the venue earmarked for Wetangula’s presidential launch, will not be available since it was still under renovation put it clear that the garden was meant to be a recreation center and will no longer hold political rallies.

During the event close to 30 people decamped to ODM where they vowed to strengthen and popularize the party in Lugari Sub County.
