Friends Naitiri Girls High School Journalism Club visited West media institution for motivation.

West Media Limited has been inspiring growing talents especially in the Western region and also nationally for students with a dream of becoming media personalities in the future.

This has been proven by various institutions that visit the institution in Bungoma for educational purposes.

Tuesday 17th November 2015, saw enthusiastic and eager students who would wish to become prominent media personalities in the future from Friends Naitiri Girls High School Journalism Club visit the institution.

The visit headed by one of the teachers who is also the Journalism Club Patron in the school Mr. Philip Kuto was seen fruitful from the faces of the students who accompanied him.

They had the privilege of visiting various departments/sections i.e. the TV room, radio and the newspaper sections in the station and interacted with their “Heroes” they claimed to have only heard on radio but never seen.

During the visit the students had the pleasure to record and hear their voices, what pleased them most is the part where they were allowed to go on air and send greetings to their families, something they had always longed to do.

Mr. Kuto was pleased with the kind of warm welcome and the treat they were given throughout the visit and said they would come again and again.

He said the money that parents had struggled and toiled to raise, since most of them are from humble backgrounds, had not gone to waste, and added that the parents will have a reason to smile since their children learnt a lot.

An interview with two of the students clearly showed the many new things they had learnt from the station.

Linda Nalianya, the head girl in the school said that she had learnt a lot that has encouraged her as an upcoming journalist.

“I am pleased by the structure of westfm company and how programmes are run here by the staff members” she said happily.

She added that the chance she was given to go on air and speak on behalf of other students was an eye-opener for her dream career and she took it as a challenge to work harder and be an inspiration to other students too in the future.

“Today I really learned a lot, “said Dominion Faith who is the vice-chair-lady of the club and also a student in the school.

“My dream is either to become a journalist or a lawyer, I am so happy with the kind of inspiration I was given by the West Media staffs, with all this encouragements I know I will make it.” The obviously bewildered Faith noted.

My regards go to the administrator Mrs. Violet Murumba for giving us access to all the sections in the studio and the West Media stuff at large.”She concluded.

The visit ended in a jovial photo session in front of the studio where the student had the pleasure to take photographs with some of the staff members.

Asked to say one word about the station Mr. Kuto could only say excitedly, “West Fm kweli ni Stesheni ya Kikwetu.”
