Athletics Kenya(AK) president Lt Gen (Rtd) Jackson Tuwei has called upon the North Rift Economic Bloc counties leadership to work closely with the organization into finding a lasting solution to Gender Based Violence cases among the Athletes.
Speaking during the national cross country Championships held in Lobo village in Eldoret, Tuwei said that Gender based violence among athletes is a multi agency approach which needs concerted efforts among all the stakeholders to arrive at a lasting solution, thus asked the leadership of the county governments to chip in.
“I want to ask the county governments from North Rift regions to work together as a team to help find a lasting solution to Gender Based Violence and doping menace,” Tuwei appealed.
Tuwei affirmed that working together towards implementation of the set policies and structures in mitigating Gender Based Violence among the athletes especially the female athletes will go along way in establishing legal frame works that sustain the protection of athletes in Kenya thus urged the county governments to chip in and be part of the organization.
The National cross country championships was held in memory of the 2015 World cross country champion Agnes Tirop who was murdered last year in her home Iten by her lover as away of advocating for end of Gender Based Violence among female athletes.
Samuel Chebolei and Joyce Chekemoi emerged winners of the 10 Km race in Men and Women category carrying the day.
