The education sector in Tongaren sub County has received a boost after plans to set up a university at Tabani by Wayland Baptist University, of Texas, America were completed with the investors visiting the site together with Bungoma County’s top leadership.
Speaking after leading the delegation, Bungoma County women representative Dr. Reginalda Wanyonyi revealed that she has always desired to have a university started in the north side of the County saying that it will boost education as well as spur the economy of the people around.
She said that she saw an opportunity to accomplish this desire when Dr. Luke Shaw from Wayland University contacted her.

“I contacted the Bungoma County government to ensure that land is allocated for the university to be set up. I also thank the residents for cooperating to have the university started at Tabani.” Reginalda said.
She added that as the Bungoma County leadership, they are geared towards achieving the very best stating that starting up a university will enable residents to attain higher learning at their convenience because it will be near them.
The Bungoma county governor Kenneth Makelo Lusaka applauded the efforts of Dr. Reginalda together with the investors saying it is a noble initiative to have the university started at Tabani.
Lusaka promised full support of the County government to have the university set up immediately saying it will transform the village to an economic hub.
He said that education is an equalizer and many children will have the opportunity to successfully pass through the education system, get knowledge in different faculties and be able to compete favorably in the job market.

Governor Lusaka further promised to set up a high mast lights at the market to boost security of the area as well as have the business people conduct their businesses up to late in the night to spur the economy of the county.
His sentiments were echoed by area Member of the County assembly Wafula Namaswa who thanked the Wayland University for deciding to start a university at Tabani.
The MCA said the people will be willing to cooperate with them to have the university build faster.
He disclosed that it will benefit his people since they will be supplying building material as well as foodstuff to the university stating that it is a blessing to the people of Ndalu/ Tabani ward given the proximity of the university.
Wayland Baptist university representative Dr. Luke Shaw assured the leaders and the residents of their commitment to have the university set up very soon saying that their mission as a Christian oriented institution is to transform the lives of people around the world.
He added that they are willing to work together with the leadership of Bungoma County to empower people through education saying it is the greatest equalizer.
