It is horror and shock to the families who lost their loved ones during early Saturday morning morning landslides in West Pokot as the recovery exercise enters day two.
The latest information indicates that twenty two bodies have been collected while fifteen are still missing, that might bring the death toll to thirty seven.
For the better part of Saturday several agencies led by the Ministry of Interior, Kenya Red Cross, local leadership from West Pokot were leading the exercise of recovering bodies buried and moving them to Kapenguria Referral Hospital mortuary.
However close to five hundred households have been affected bringing to a total of five thousand residents affected.
On Saturday at Nyarkulian in Pokot south sub county, several locals were camping at trading centres while appealing for food and clothing.
Pokot South MP David Pkosing urged locals living in hilly and dangerous places to move to safer grounds to avert such disaster from claiming more lives.
Many roads leading to where the landslides occured have been cut off and rendered impassable slowing the rescue efforts.
According to residents, those who came to rescue families being swept were as well killed that include a secondary school student from Chewoyet High School in West pokot.
Shoes scattered everywhere showing the level at locals were trying to escape.
Bodies recovered were swept as long as a distance of seven kilometres downstream.
Transport between Kitale and Lodwar is still paralyzed for the second day at the Sebit bridge that was cut off as emergency measures is expected today to ensure transport resumes.
The landslides occurred at Nyarkulian, Parua in Pokot south subcounty and Muino in Tamkal in Pokot central sub county.
