A suspected robber is nursing serious injuries at the Lumakanda county hospital after being saved from an angry mob who were threatening to lynch him while his accomplice is in custody at the Lumakanda police station for allegedly engaging in a series of criminal activities in Chekalini location Lugari sub county.
Confirming the incident, Lugari Sub County Police Commander Patrick Maundu said the first suspect, Joseph Kedogo, was cornered and attacked by angry residents who later torched his house accusing him of being behind a spate of criminal activities in the area.
He said the suspect tried to run away after untangling himself from the hands of the mob who hit him with a metallic rod, breaking one of his legs, before they descended on him with all manner of crude weapons.
They later went to his house, ransacked it and managed to get an assortment of stolen property which they shared amongst themselves before setting the house ablaze.
The SCPC said his officers responded quickly and managed to rescue the suspect from the hands of the mob and when interrogated, the suspect named one of his accomplices identified as Shiandiche Kimahala.
He said the officers went to Kimahala’s home where they managed to arrest him and recovered two stolen motorbikes.
Kimahala also mentioned more accomplices but they could not be traced after running into hiding on sensing their lives were in danger.
Kedogo was taken to Lumakanda county hospital where he is admitted under tight security while Kimahala is being held at Lumakanda police station awaiting to be arraigned in court.
The police boss said his officers have launched an investigation into the incident with an aim of arresting more suspects saying patrols have been beefed up to ensure maximum security.
