Mbakalo MCA Bethwel Mwambu who was hijacked on the night of 15th March is now undergoing treatment at Lumboka Hospital in Bungoma.
Mwambu was left cataleptic by the hijackers, beside the road in Changara area Teso North constituency in Busia County.
He was discovered by motorcycle operators in the area who informed the police.
He was then taken to hospital by the police; he is now convalescing according to the doctors at Lumboka. The MCA has not uttered a word for two days since he was hospitalized, what the doctors believe he was highly inebriated by the hijackers.
The Bungoma county assembly Jubilee chief whip was hijacked while on his way home in Mbakalo on Tuesday at around midnight, when three armed men who were trailing them on a motor bike forced the driver out of the car before they escaped with the MCA.
The incident sparked demonstrations in Mbakalo, with residents torching the chief’s office and administration buildings, a shop believed to belong to Nyumba kumi officer over what they said was police letdown to secure the area.
Bungoma leaders led by the county MP Dr. Reginalda Wanyonyi have so far visited the hospital to find out what really happened but in vain because the MCA is unable to talk now according to the doctors attending to him.
