Kenya out of the volleyball African championship

Kenya’s hopes of reclaiming the ‘Africa volleyball Champion club’ title remained elusive for the third year in a row after Kenya Champions Pipeline dropped out in the semi finals.

Pipeline fell to its host team Carthage of Tunisia and failled to contest for the less prestigious 3rd and 4th position against Rwanda Revenue Authority.

The 7 times champions Kenya Pipeline lost 3-1 (21-25, 31-29, 25-23, and 25-15) to the host team in a match that Pipeline exposed numerous reception and blocking errors.

Kenya Pipeline last won the competition in 2005 and will have to wait longer to reclaim the crown.

In the same line, the 5 times champions Kenya Prisons also dropped out of title contention after falling to Cartage in the quarter finals.

The other Kenya representatives in the championship Kenya Prisons, crashed out of the competition following their 3-1 loss to Tunisia’s Carthage.

Carthage completed the semifinal line up with a (25-19, 25-22, 25-27, 25-18) win over the 5 times champions and joined the defending champions Al Ahly of Egypt, Rwanda Revenue Authority and 7 times champions Kenya Pipeline.

At the same time, Rwanda’s Revenue Authority shocked El Shams of Egypt 3-1 (25-21, 10-25, 29-27, 25-18) in a thrilling encounter while Kenya Champions Pipeline were 3-1 (25-15,25-18,15-25,25-17) winners over host team Sfaxien of Tunisia.

Al Ahly of Egypt beat former champions GSP Algeria 3-2 (23-30, 23-25, 22-25, 25-18, 15-6).

Kenya Prisons last won the African title in 2013 when it was held in Nairobi.

They went on to loose the trophy to GSP in the 2014 finals in Algeria and did not attend last year’s edition held in Cairo Egypt.
