Security has been beefed up in West Pokot County ahead of party nominations on Friday as politicians wind up their campaigns. The Jubilee and KANU party nominations will both be held on the 21st, on Friday.
The security team in the County has assured residents that it is ready to deal with any issues concerning the forthcoming party primaries’ nominations.
West Pokot County Commissioner Apollo Okello, speaking to the media today morning, said that the security team is ready to ensure peace prevails.
He warned leaders who use youths to disrupt such events that they will face the law accordingly.
Okello said security officers have been deployed along the Pokot and Turkana borders and other border porous areas infiltrated by bandits. “Security officers are alert and patrolling twenty-four hours,” he said.
Okello the security situation in the County is fine, apart from isolated cases along West Pokot and Turkana County. “We have put measures in place with our counterparts in Turkana to ensure we have maximum security. Many residents support Jubilee and we expect to have challenges. We assure residents that there will be maximum security,” he said.
Mr. Okello urged political leaders to closely work together with security officers ahead of the nomination exercise. “Those who will lose should be ready to accept defeat .We don’t want chaos in this place,” he said.
The County Commissioner reiterated that police have been deployed in hot spot areas of Nauyapong, Masol, Turkwel and Alale. “We don’t want to hear about any attack during this time of nominations,” he said.
He, therefore, urged members of the public, especially those at the borders to remain vigilant and report any suspicious people to the nearest authorities so that they are inspected and their intentions revealed.
