Vihiga gubernatorial aspirant Yusuf Chanzu has raised concern over forced buying of unnecessary items in order to buy subsidized maize flour in the region from traders.
Chanzu said the government should deal with those culprits who are compelling the consumers to buy extra items to get the subsidized flour.
“The traders forcefully sell other food items accompanied by the maize flour. It is sad that you buy unnecessary items from the supermarket shelves,” said Chanzu.
He said the government should revoke the licenses of such business people who are out to exploit the unsuspecting consumers.
“The government should come out strongly and protect the consumers who are suffering at the hands of dishonest business people,” said Chanzu.
Chanzu said that most traders wrapped other items like sugar on the 1Kg and 2Kg subsidized maize flour before it is sold.
Chanzu, who said this during the Thanksgiving ceremony of his running mate Billy Nyonje at his home in Luanda Sub County, said his government will tackle the pain the people of Vihiga have gone through in the past four years under the leadership of area governor Moses Akaranga.

“The current Governor has been involved in many corruption scandals that have dragged our development agenda which we wished we could achieve through the devolved unit,” said Chanzu.
He said his development track record as a member of parliament for 20 years and expertise will enable him to spearhead and initiate development projects that target the residents.
“I will ensure that projects initiated are people driven with intention of uplifting their source of income and welfare,” said Chanzu.
He criticized the leadership of Governor Akaranga and said that he will improve the health, roads, and education sectors if elected as Governor in the next polls.
