Lady Justice Ruth Sitati has urged parents in Bungoma County and the country as a whole to invest heavily in their children’s education as it’s the only investment that will change the society. Lady Justice Ruth who is also the chairlady of the Lugulu Girls alumni was speaking at Lugulu after taking part in an 11 km fundraising walk from the Lugulu Girls High School to Misikhu market.

Moreover, she emphasized the importance of the girl child education, saying that when you educate the girl child, you’re educating a whole community and the whole country, adding that if her uneducated mother hadn’t catered for her education, she wouldn’t be where she is today. She challenged girls to pursue courses that are considered tailored for boys like Engineering and Law since they all have equal chances and they can trump the boys.

The fundraising attracted former students of the school, among them Grace Wanyonyi, who left the school in 1968, and recounted that she was among the first students at the school. The event was also attended and flagged off by the Webuye West Sub County Education officer Mrs. Adelaide Mbakila who lauded the plan by the alumni adding that they had set a good example to the young girls.  The funds collected are meant to cater for the building of an administration block that will accommodate all teachers and the school leadership.
