The Nairobi County administration has demolished the car wash that was situated on the controversial parcel of land where the famous Simmers hangout spot used to be in the Nairobi CBD. On Monday morning, the demolition works began and those operating within the business premises had to move out. According to officials, the structure was an illegal structure. The root of the problem goes further, however, and Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko had already alluded to the fact that a land grabber who had already set up plans to grab public land was the owner of the business.
On Saturday, goons descended on a church and school in Buru Buru to demolish them, saying the land had been grabbed. Governor Sonko, however, arrived at the scene and the plan to destroy the church was halted. He said he knows who is behind the plan to grab the land, “I know him, he has set up a car wash at Simmers and even he has no approval for that car wash. The same way he has destroyed this school is the same way the car wash will be pulled down,” said Sonko.
