Barely five days after a 13-year-old girl was defiled and brutally murdered at Moi’s bridge, Mapera village in Mawe Tatu sub location Likuyani sub county was thrown into mourning after the body of a 16-year-old girl believed to have been sexually assaulted was discovered dumped in Kipsangui stream.
The body of Catherine Nasimiyu was discovered by a group of children who were playing near the stream on Thursday afternoon.
According to Mr. Robert Luvembe, he had just returned home from work at about 1pm when his children informed him that they had seen human body in the stream. “At first I thought it was a dog’s carcass but on looking carefully I discovered it was human body since only legs could be seen with rest of the body was submerged in the water,” said Mr. Luvembe.
He later informed other residents and local administration who jointly managed to retrieve the body from the stream. “It is so sad this girl was stripped completely naked before being murdered and dumped here without a single piece of cloth on her body,” said Mrs. Ann Muhatia.
At first the body could not be identified by the residents before it was taken to Kitale mortuary for postmortem.
However, after information about the incident spread all over, she was later identified as Catherine Nasimiyu a resident of Lukusi village in the neighbouring Sango sub location.
According to the deceased’s family led by Mr. Moses Wamalwa the girl left home on 25/12/2019 for Christmas celebrations but never returned.
Efforts to search for her bore no fruits until her body was discovered in the stream adding that girl who sat her KCPE examination last year was expected to join Form One this year but she couldn’t be found.
According to some of her friends, they met her at Sango market on Wednesday where she promised them that she would return home soon though she did not reveal to them where she lived.
Residents led by Mr. Mulati Wafula Ngao and Maurice Handa have decried the state of insecurity in the area following a series of rape and murder incidents.
The incident comes barely five days after a 13-year-old girl, Lucy Wanjiro, a standard six pupil at Moi’s bridge Township primary school was defiled and brutally murdered before her body was dumped on the road at Moi’s bridge.
Confirming the incident, Mawe Tatu sub location assistant chief Wycliffe Masinde appealed for calmness as police launched investigation into the incident with the aim of ensuring the culprits face the law.
