Following public outcry concerning the misappropriation of funds in the Health Ministry, Saboti MP Caleb Amisi wants Health CS Mutahi Kagwe to resign to pave way for further investigations. Kenyans have criticized the Health Ministry and its handling of the Coronavirus pandemic even more after an exposé aired on one of the prime local TV stations on Sunday detailing how unscrupulous people looted from Covid-19 aid.
Speaking in Kitale, Amisi claimed the buck stops with Health CS Kagwe and that he is better placed to tell Kenyans how funds
were misappropriated in his Ministry.
“I’m appealing to the Health CS Mutahi Kagwe to resign immediately following the revelation of misappropriation of funds in his Ministry and he was the prime suspect in the whole saga,” claimed Amisi.
He, however, defended the Health officials who were suspended, claiming they were sacrificial lambs. He noted that no scandal can happen in the Health docket without CS Kagwe’s knowledge, and that he is responsible for the strains bedevilling the Ministry.
Amisi added that investigations into the scandals surrounding the Health Ministry must be narrowed down to Counties. He said Covid-19 funds are being stolen in the Counties by Governors, who have taken advantage of the situation posed by the pandemic. On Monday, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe appeared before the National Assembly Health Committee to answer to various questions on the running of the Ministry and its handling of the Covid-19 situation in Kenya. He said he was the one who initiated internal auditing and has nothing to do with the Ministry’s scandals.
