The Democratic Action Party Kenya (DAP-K) and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Parties of Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition dominated the Member of National Assembly (MNA) and Member of County Assembly (MCA) elects in Luanda Sub County of Vihiga County.
The MNA elect Oyugi Dick Maungu won on a DAP- K ticket with 15,298 votes out of 34,620 cast votes. The incumbent MNA Christopher Omulele was second with 12,271 on an ODM ticket.
Of the five wards in Luanda; Luanda Township, Wemilabi, Luanda South, Mwibona and Emabungu, three had ODM party MCA elects, one had DAP-K party elect and one of Maendeleo Chap Chap (MCC) party.
Luanda township MCA elect, David Donald garnered 2,863 out of 6,296 cast votes. He will be replacing Tom Atingo who was running for the MNA seat on a UDA ticket and lost to Dick Maungu of DAP-K.
In Wemilabi ward, Patrick Akhwale retained his seat as the MCA elect and will be serving the ward for the second term. Patrick managed 3,216 votes out of 7,070 cast votes on an ODM ticket setting the pace a notch higher. Peter Amihanda came second with 1,535 votes on a Jubilee party ticket, less than half of Patrick’s votes.
Mwimbona ward had the ODM flag flying high after the incumbent MCA retained his seat on an ODM ticket with 2,115 votes out of 6,291 cast votes. He was closely followed by Patrick Munya of MDP with 1,681 votes and Ruth Rebecca of DAP-K with 1,379 votes.
Luanda South MCA elect, Kevin Njiro of ODM party outdid the incumbent MCA, Joseph Alukutsa of UDP after scooping more than half the cast votes. Kevin got 3,828 votes out of 7,122 cast votes. Joseph Peter came second with 2,143 votes.
Emabungo ward has MCC party MCA elect, Michael Katal with 1,923 votes out of 7,806 cast votes. Michael outdid Mosses Opole of ODM, the sitting MCA came third with 1,280 votes.The ward had the highest number of MCA aspirants in the constituency.
County level elections results in Luanda Sub County had Ruth Bukachi an independent candidate came first in the Woman Representative elective position with 10,048 votes. Godfrey Osotsi of ODM Party came first in the Senatorial seat with 21,633 votes. As for the Gubernatorial elections, Dr. Wilber Otichilo of ODM came first with 25,436 votes.
In the presidential elections, Raila Odinga of ODM party had 25,170 votes from Luanda Sub County, William Ruto of UDA had 9,083 votes, George Wajackoyah of Roots party of Kenya had 319 votes and David Waihiga Mwaure of Agano party had 115 votes.
The Sub County results were announced and winners declared by the Deputy Returning Officer Celestine Wekesa at Ebusakami Girls high school, the official constituency tallying centre.
