The Bungoma County government is once again on the spot after it emerged ICU beds that were given to the County by First Lady Margaret Kenyatta are in deplorable condition. Photos emerged showing the rusty beds which would’ve come in handy especially as Kenya grapples with the Covid-19 pandemic.
This comes after rights activists in Bungoma including Zack Barasa questioned the state and whereabouts of the beds that were donated by the First Lady when she visited the County two years ago. “We want to know where are the beds that were donated by the First Lady. We are tired of seeing these cat and mouse games being played by the County government on issues affecting the local mwananchi,” lamented Zack Barasa, adding that Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati has focused on things that are less important for the citizens.
The County government has faced lots of backlash after revelations emerged that officials had purchased 20 litre jerry cans, 600 in number, at Kshs 10,000 each. However, the Governor rubbished those claims, with other leaders including Senator Moses Wetangula calling for transparency on the matter.
