Two Nandi MCAs and four County Assembly staff have tested positive for Covid-19. The Speaker for the County Assembly of Nandi Joshua Kiptoo, while confirming the cases said the Assembly should be temporarily shut to pave the way for mass testing of MCAs and staff. Some MCAs have however opposed the request, saying several bills have to be passed and closure of the Assembly will paralyze service delivery.
Led by Kapsabet MCA Frederick Kipkemboi and nominated MCA Terry Maiyo, the MCAs said those who’ve tested positive should be quarantined and the house activities should proceed as normal. Kiptoo said the Nandi Health Ministry is aware of the situation but there is a shortage of testing reagents and has urged the leaders to be patient. Three months ago, one of the MCAs tested positive for Covid-19, prompting the closure of the Nandi Assembly.
