West Pokot county governor John Lonyangapuo has urged frontline health workers to get the Covid-19 vaccine citing that the jab is safe and has been satisfied.
Speaking at Kapenguria county referral hospital after being vaccinated Lonyangapuo dispelled the rumours doing rounds about the vaccine maintaining that it is safe and sound for human health.
Lonyangapuo who was accompanied by a section of his staff warned county executive committee members CECs who will fail from being vaccinated that they will be sacked.
He urged members of the public to desist from listening to misconceptions about the jab and come out in large numbers and get the jab.
“I urge all county residents and Kenyans at large to take the jab without fear as the vaccine will help in combating Covid-19 and flattening the infection curve.” He said.
The governor cautioned those who spread negative rumours about the vaccine, saying there is no government that can approve the use of a vaccine that will harm its people.
Governor Lonyangapuo received the vaccine as a role model calling upon other leaders to take the lead as good precedence.
“I call on county officials to act as an example by ensuring that they also get vaccinated. Those who will not partake the exercise in my government will be sending a negative message to the public,’’ added the governor.
Kapenguria County Referral Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr. David Karori said the county had vaccinated over 216 health workers of which 166 are male and 50 female out of a total of 1,500.
He joined the county boss in rallying other members of staff and residents to volunteer for vaccination. Besides continuing with observing the Ministry of Health Covid-19 protocols.
West Pokot County has so far received 6,000 doses of the vaccine targeting frontline health workers.
Commenting on the case where dozens in Alale ward consumed poisonous meat of a dead camel, Dr. Karori said the dead camel was poisonous and they are waiting for a report from the government laboratory to establish what kind of poison the meat contained.
“When you eat meat that has not been inspected then likely someone might suffer from diarrhoea and vomiting, the numbers keep on rising and we are dealing with the situation.” He said. However, governor Lonyangapuo said it’s an isolated case.
