Farmers from Trans-Nzoia County the food basket in the country have been warned against disposing their farm produce especially maize at a throw away price and wait for best prices.

This comes after realizing that many are being exploited following the hard economic times.

According to the youth leader in Trans-Nzoia Dalton Khamala many farmers are undergoing strenuous moments with their produce some forced to sell their maize at throw away price to cater for their basic needs and even help in paying school fees for their children.

He has also warned farmers against disposing their  maize  in exchange of  unnecessary items saying that they have to bear in mind that coming times are tough and need to store food to secure their future.

He has also urged the County government of Trans-Nzoia to rescue farmers from cartels who buy their maize at a cheaper price.

Farmers have been straining especially after the shooting prices of fertilizer in the last planting season that saw some even abandon planting maize due to the high prices.

It’s a relief now to many after the President announced new prices of fertilizers from Shs. 6,000 to 3500.
